Autumn in the North publishes select photographs, nonfiction essays, literature, music, and art.

Submission Guidelines:

All work should be submitted to David Murphy at DavidMurphy13@GMail.com.

Rights: Autumn in the North receives First North American Serial Rights, and Autumn in the North retains the right to archive your work.  There is no payment for any work published by Autumn in the North.  All contributors are entitled to publish their work elsewhere after publishing with Autumn in the North.

Fiction:

Fiction manuscripts, from short shorts to novels are accepted.  Please allow 2 – 3 weeks reading time for all submissions, and please include a cover letter with a brief biography.

Please send your fiction manuscript in a Word document in Times New Roman font, size 12.

Poetry:

Poetry is accepted.  If your poem follows a certain structure (sestina, villanelle, canzone, etc.), then please indicate the structure in your cover letter.  Please include a brief bio and cover letter with your poems.  Please send up to five poems in a single Word document.

Photography:

Photographs relating to adventure-travel, geography, war, nature, sex, and people are actively solicited.  Photographs related to abstract photography are typically not candidates for publication.  Both black and white and color photographs are acceptable.

Photographs should be submitted as individual .jpg attachments.  Photography submissions should include a separate cover page and biography, in addition to an attached Word document with information about the photo including: photographer’s name, location of photo, date photo was taken, name of photo, and any technical information which the photographer wishes to provide.

Nonfiction Essays:

Nonfiction essays are considered in the fields of: personal experience, adventure-travel, war, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), sex, politics, and sports.  Essays of more than 5,000 words should be accompanied by multiple illustrations or photographs.  Essays should be accompanied by a cover page and biography, as well as a bibliography if sources are cited.  Please send your nonfiction essays in a Word document.

Music:

Music should be submitted in an .mp3 file, and each songs should be submitted in a separate attachment.  Autumn in the North considers all genres of music, although death metal is unlikely to be strongly considered for publication.

Music submissions should be accompanied by band information including: the instruments played, a photograph of the band, musicians’ names, and the names of songs and albums.

Art:

Art submissions should be sent as .jpg files.  The submissions should be accompanied by a cover letter and bio, as well as information about the piece of artwork, such as: title of the piece, size, and medium.  Other information regarding the conception of the piece–why the piece was made, what the piece stands for for you, etc. is appreciated but not obligatory.

Serialized Novels or Books of Poetry:

Novels, short story collections, and books of poetry will be considered.  Accepted works will be published in serialized form, and, at the completion of the serialization, the work will be published in its entirety.  Please send your work in a Word document.
